Kenya beat Rwanda to secure World Championship ticket
The national women’s volleyball team thrived under the heated atmosphere at Kasarani’s Indoor Arena as they claimed a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19) win over Rwanda in their final match of the Under-23 Africa Nations Championship on Thursday.
The result saw the Junior Malkia Strikers join African giants, Egypt – who simply too powerful against all four of their opponents – in securing direct tickets to next year’s FIVB World Under-23 championship which will be held in Slovenia.
In an earlier fixture, the Egyptians saw off Botswana 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-19) to finish as champions of the five-nation event.
Yvonne Wavinya starred as the Kenyans, coached by former Kenyan international Catherine Mabwi ensured a rude return for another former Kenyan international, Paul Bitok, who caches the Rwandan outfit.
