Kenya crush Bostwana in World Cup qualifier

The national Under 20 women’s team streamrolled through Botswana 7-1 in their World Cup qualifier match played at the Lobatse Sports Complex in Gaborone on Friday.

The crushing victory at the Botswana capital put Kenya in the control seat in their march to the first round of the qualification phase of the biennial international women’s youth championship that will be held in France next year.

Martha Amunyolete sparked the rout with a 10th minute goal before Cynthia Shilwatso doubled the advantage nine minutes later.

Botswana’s Leano Atlang halved the deficit with a sweetly struck free-kick at the stroke of half-time but the hosts simply could not cope with the Kenyan charge after the restart.

Marjoleen Nekesa fired a five-minute brace in the 61st and 66th minutes before the skipper Corazone Acquino and Diana Wacera grabbed a goal apiece.

Martha Amunyolete rounded the scoring in the final minute of regular time to give the side that is coached by Ann Aluoch with a massive first leg advantage.

The two sides will meet in on August 5 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos for the return leg with the aggregate winner set to face Ethiopia in the first round.

The 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be the 9th edition of the global showpiece.
