Kenya face Uruguay in U20 Rugby Trophy opener

Kenya’s Chipu will begin its World Rugby Under-20 Trophy championship campaign tomorrow with a clash against Uruguay at the Sao Jose dos Campos in Brazil.

The Kenyans will then face hosts Brazil on July 14 before wrapping up their action against  Japan three days later with a place in the 2020 World Rugby U20 Championship at stake.

Chipu, who suffered financial constraints in the run-up to the championship, are participating at the competition for only the second after 2009 when they hosted it in Nairobi.

As the under 20s will be flying Kenyan flag across the pacific, Kenya Simbas and Kenya Lionesses will be on the pitch flying our flag across the East African region.

The two will be taking part in the Elgon 7s Cup return legs in Kampala, Uganda.

Kenya 15s coach Paul Odera who doubles up as the Chipu coach, will not be on the touchline when the Simbas face Uganda in the Elgon Cup return in his absence, assistant coach Albertus Van Buuren and Kenya Rugby Union Director of Rugby Thomas Odundo will be the stewards of the team in the Ugandan capital. Odera is in Brazil for the under 20s World Junior Championship.
