Kenya humbles Hong Kong in Rugby 15s

The Kenya Rugby 15s team continued its impressive form humbling Hong Kong 24-18, in the first of two test matches between the two teams at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa grounds Tuesday evening.

Fresh from winning the Elgon Cup by demolishing Uganda Cranes 93-36, the hosts were keen to safeguarding their home unbeaten record against the 23rd placed Hong Kong in the HBSC world rankings.

The Simbas would face a torrid in the first few minutes of the game going down to an early 5-0 try by the Dragons.

It took the hosts long to get back in the game, as Kevin Masai’s converted a penalty to bring the scoreline to 5-3.
Masai’s beautiful conversion from Mike Agevi gifted the Simbas the lead, making it a 10-5 score.
A try from the Dragons, however, gave them an upper hand with a 11 point to 10 lead against the Simbas.

The second half, which was more electrifying, favoured the home side with substitute Samson Onsofu displaying an energetic run through the flank to cap Kenya’s second try, after which Masai converted to make it 17-11.

Captain of the night, Innocent Simiyu, set up a try for the impressive Masai who made it 24 – 11 in favour to widen the gap between the Simbas and the Dragons.

With time running out for the stunned visitors, a last-minute try and a conversion meant the Simbas walked out victorious beating the Dragons by 24-18.

The two sides meet again on Saturday for the second leg.
