Kenya Lionesses drawn in Pool B for Dubai 7s

The Kenya Lionesses have been drawn in Pool B of the Women’s International Invitational Category at next month’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series opener in Dubai.

Lionesses who represented Africa at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and winners of the Bowl competition in last year have been pooled with Ireland, Belgium, Poland and Tribe 7s.

Kenya will play their first match against Belgium at 11.40 am (EAT), before playing their other three group matches in the afternoon.

Lionesses second match is against Poland at 2.00 pm before taking on Tribe 3.40 pm and wrapping their pool commitments against Ireland at 5.40 pm (EAT)

It will be the second assignment for head coach Kevin Wambua who led the team to finish second behind champions South Africa in the Cup final of Africa 7s in Harare, Zimbabwe in September.

Wambua praised Lionesses saying that they picked up a lot of positives ahead of their coming assignment where everyone played their part and insisted that there is a lot more in store from the team.

Lionesses played their first ever HSBC Women’s Sevens Series in Clermont-Ferrand, France in May and finished second in Roma 7s in June.

Regardless of losing all their group matches in Brazil, Lionesses made history after winning their first ever match in the Olympics beating Colombia 22-10.

They also won their first ever HSBC Women’s World Series game against a core team when they sunk Japan 12-5 in the 11th place play-off at the 2015/16 season in France.

Pool A features France Development, Samurai, Tuks Ladies, Tabusoro Angels and Uganda’s Gazelles.
