Kenya Morans set up Morocco clash at AfroCan
Kenya men basketball team needed overtime to thump Tunisia 82-76 in an explosive quarter-final tie on Wednesday (24) to advance to the Semi-finals of theongoing FIBA AfroCan competition in Bamako, Mali.
Regular time was not enough to separate the two sides who rallied at 68 points after Jawhar Jawadi and Ahmed Dhif sunk 2-pointers apiece to cancel Morans four-point lead with only 9 seconds of play left.
Morans’ Griffin Ligare poured vital 7 points in the overtime period to fire the Kenyan side to a 14-8 rout of Tunisia, edging out the North African side.
Tunisia bagged the first two quarters sinking Morans 19-20 and 14-16 in the first quarter and second quarter respectively, 21-year-old 6’8’’ Tunisian Mohammed Rassil punishing the Kenyan side by sinking 14 points.
However, the Morans bounced back thrashing West Africans a crushing 20-10 rout in the third quarter, the man of the night Tom Wamukota sinking 10 points in the quarter with Griffin Ligare and Tyler Okal playing a pivotal role.
Bold North Africans managed to beat Morans 22-15 in the last quarter to force the game into overtime period which Morans won to win 82-76.
Top Moran performers Griffin Ligare sunk game-high 22 points with 5 rebounds, while Wamukota sunk 21 points with 14 rebounds, Basketball ace Tylor Ongwae Okal and Erick Reuben Mutoro sunk 14 points apiece.
Morans will face-off Morocco today on the first semi-final.
