Kenya ordered to pay ex-coach Amrouche Sh108m

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has ordered Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to pay former Harambee Stars head coach Adel Amrouche Sh108m for wrongful termination.

Amrouche was sacked after Kenya was bundled out of the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, following a humiliating 1-0 aggregate defeat to minnows Lesotho.

FKF, then under Sam Nyamweya reacted to the loss with the dismissal of the entire technical bench, which was led by the Belgian.

The current FKF regime under Nick Mwendwa sought to settle the case, along with that of Bobby Williamson, out of court in 2016 but no settlement was reached.

Mwendwa’s office has been battling the case in the Lausanne-based courts to try and find a middle ground, but no solution was forthcoming.

FKF has been given 30 days beginning October 1 to pay Amrouche or risk being locked out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Amrouche, a former coach for the Burundi and Libyan national teams as well as Algerian clubs USM Algeria and MC Alger, was appointed the new Botswana coach in August this year.
