Kenya Pipeline face Al Ahly in CAVB semis

Kenya Pipeline will face the African Volleyball Championship defending champions Al Ahly in the semi finals on Saturday in Cairo after storming to the last four defeating Egypt’s Sporting on Friday.

Spot-on Pipeline thrashed the Egyptians by 3-1 sets of 25-19, 25-27, 25-12, 25-20 in a fierce last eight tie to sail through while hosts Al Ahly downed El Shams by straight sets in an all Egyptian quarter finals.

Margret Indakhala coached Pipeline started on a high note grabbing the first set before their opponents restored parity in the second set but the six- time winners affirmed their last four spot quest in the third and fourth sets.

In a post-match reflection, seasoned setter Janet Wanja said her side can dare to dream after sailing through to the last four but warned that it will be a mountain to climb to wrest the title from holders Alhly.

“I’m very happy we have qualified and I think we can dream of the title but now the biggest challenge lies on the semis because at this stage every team know they are very close so we have to be very ready to take on Ahly tomorrow, ” said Wanja.

In the other last eight matches, 2018 champions Carthage of Tunisia advanced to the last four for the fourth year in a row after overcoming Cameroon’s FAP by straight sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-22. Carthage will meet GSP of Algeria in the semis.

GSP the 2014 champions hammered Nigeria’s Customs by straight sets 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 in the quarterfinals

After the semis, the finals of the 31st edition of the annual competition will be played on Monday 25.
