The Kenya Rugby League Federation has unveiled its board of directors as per the requirement of the Sports Act.
The board members are Sammy Githinji, Kevin Adhere, Amer Mwatsahu, Joel Nganga and Eric Murungi – all with strong rugby backgrounds – and will help the chairman steer the federation by providing strategic and operational direction.
Githinji will serve as the secretary while Eric Murungi comes on board as the treasurer, Amer Mwatsahu as the director of operations while Kevin Adhere will be in charge of competitions and tournaments.
Ex-Kenya international Joel Nganga is the national squad’s management and players’ welfare.
Their appointment comes on the backdrop of earlier appointments which saw Edward Rombo picked as the head coach while Benjamin Ayimba came on board as technical director and Charles Cardovillis as the director for commercial and special Projects.
“From my professional angle I bring in knowledge of design and constructing sports facilities that will be required as we grow the game. I hope to meet and engage in this exciting journey to grow the rugby league in Kenya,” Nganga said.
According to the KRL Chairman Quicks Nyakwaka “it was imperative to put in place a proper and solid structure in terms of expertise that will oversee, run and manage the league. The board constitutes great rugby souls with the character that KRL needs to produce a world class outfit.”
The Kenya Rugby League is in the process of strengthening its coaching and technical units, in readiness for its league kick-off and maiden international test match against South Africa later in the year.
