Kenya Simbas make mince meat of Zimbabwe Sables

The national rugby 15’s team demolished Zimbabwe Sables 61-15 in their Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) Division 1A match played in Harare on Saturday.

It was a fine revenge for Simba who were outclassed 28-20 last year by the Sables to end their quest to reclaim the continental crown.
Coach Jerome Paarwater, fielded a strong team led by the experienced captain Brian Nyikuli with the return of Max Adaka and veteran Innocent Simiyu from injuries adding potency to the 27th ranked Simbas.

Making only two changes to the team that defeated Brazil in Test match, Tony Onyango was the first in the scoresheet with a try converted by Darwin Mukidza but Sables pulled back with a penalty to make it 7-3 for the visitors.

Paarwater’s side continued to be the stronger side after center David Ambunya scored another try.
Camping in Zimbabwe’s half their fullbacks were unable to field high balls with Ambunya and Muhanji scoring two quick tries for Kenya with KCB’s forward Mukidza converting both to extend their lead to 24-10 three minutes to halftime.
In the second half Mukidza continued with his impressive form by scoring a penalty, but it was Muhanji’s evening after he landed his brace for Simba to go up 37-15.
Two quick fire tries from Sikuta and Achayo with Mukidza’s boot as accurate as ever saw Kenya out of touching distance of the rattled Sables as the scoreboard read 51-15.
And still the hungry Simbas came for more with Sikuta notching up his double when he crossed the whitewash before Adaka crowned his return with a five-pointer to complete the mauling 61-15 at full time.
Kenya will play their second Division 1A match against Namibia on July 16 out to skin the team that has lifted the last two continental titles as they hunt for a first CAR crown since 2011.
Zimbabwe will then host Uganda on July 23 before the final round of matches set for July 30 and August 6 where Kenya will entertain Uganda and Zimbabwe travel to Namibia.
