Kenya Simbas to host Hong Kong Dragons for Test match

The Kenya Rugby 15s is set to take on Hong Kong in a two-match test clash at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) on August 23rd and 27th .

The Kenya Simbas who have enjoyed a hugely successful run of results this year will be hoping they can maintain an impressive run of performances that has seen them edge Brazil’s Os Tupis 17-18 and romp past their neighboring arch-rivals, the Uganda Rugby Cranes, to a 93-34 aggregate in a two legged tournament to lift the Elgon Cup.

The Simbas mauled the Cranes 48-10 in the first leg and followed it up with a resounding 45-24 win in a thrilling second leg match to complete a 93-34 aggregate demolition, in one of the most surprisingly lopsided Elgon Cup clashes in the history of the two archrivals’ meetings.

The Simbas boast a tremendous record coming into the test clash, having lost only one match since the turn of the year at the hands of CAR champions Namibia; a 56-21 humbling.

They will nonetheless need the services of veteran Innocent Simiyu who made his comeback to the rugby scene with a peerless performance that helped guarantee the Simbas the Elgon Cup. He was wearing the famous Kenyan outfit for the first time since 2011 in what was the perfect throwback to a bygone era.

Simiyu who was revered for his pace during his heyday proved he still has more left in his reserves and should be nowhere close to hanging his boots as his strength and forceful drive proved too much for the opposition to handle.

Simiyu made his maiden return to the rugby scene after his career had been stalled by a serious neck injury that resulted from a horror tackle that laid him off for three years.

The squad will be named on Monday but hardly any modifications will be expected from the Kenya Simbas coach head coach Jerome Paarwater on a team that de-feathered the Cranes with a win against the Hong Kong Dragons side that is only two places above the national team (currently ranked 24) in the World Rugby Rankings.
