Kenya storm Copa Africa quarters after Mozambique win

Hosts Kenya marched on to the quarter finals of the Copa Coca-Cola Africa Cup tourney after thrashing Mozambique 3-0 in their second match in the second edition of the championship which kicked off Monday at Mpesa Foundation Academy in Thika.

Sensational striker Fredrick Onyango was the hero after netting a first half hat-trick to send the defending champions to the last eight of the four-day tourney.

In the opening match which was graced by the Sports and Heritage Cabinet Secritary Amina Mohammed alongside her counterparts Prof.George Magoha of Education and Prof. Margret Kobia from Youth and Gender docket, Kenya were stunned 3-1 by Zimbabwe in a soaked grounds.

Kenya will face Botswana in the quarter finals of the tourney which has attracted 10 countries from diverse Confederation of African Football (CAF) zones, including Cecafa, Wafu, Cosafa and Cosafa.

In the other last eight matches, Zimbabwe will face off with Namibia while Zambia play Group D runners-up Angola.

Favourites Uganda who whitewashed Namibia 11-2 and another resounding 4-0 win against the same opponent will confront Tanzania in the other quarter finals. Tanzania claimed a 3-1 win against South Africa before losing 2-0 against Zambia to finish Group B runners up.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso pulled out in the last hour due to unknown reasons.
