Kenya stun Denmark in Roll Ball World Cup 2017

Kenya men stunned Denmark 5-3 a Roll World Cup 2017 clash in Dhaka, Bangladesh for their second successive victory in the event.

Albert Omware led the Kenyan charge by scoring a hat-trick with skipper Moses Atenya and Joseph Alukhala also on the score sheet to floor the Danes who are the first ever Roll Ball World Cup champions.

The men play Sri Lanka and Philippines next as they bid to better their fourth finish at the previous World Cup.

Kenya head coach Jared Onyango admitted the game was their sternest test yet since his charges were not settled but their tactics prevailed in the end.

“Denmark were rough and were penalized thrice and we managed to convert two penalties into scores. So far this is our toughest match,” the Kenya boss Onyango added.

“It was a tough match but still a blessing to us because it’s their first time to beat Denmark. We just thank God. The support from the ladies cheering squad was great and we thank them. We are unleashing our potential in each game and doing it for God and country,” Kenya captain Atenya remarked.

Elsewhere, hosts Bangladesh men’s team continued their winning streak in World Cup while the women’s side began their campaign with a comfortable victory on the second day of the event in the capital on Saturday

Bangladesh men’s team, who thrashed Hong Kong 19-1 in their opening match on Friday, strolled onto another convincing win against Bhutan, this time by 9-2, in a Pool D tie at Shaheed Sohrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur in the afternoon.

Hasan Hridoy, who netted nine goals in the previous game, and Arafat scored four goals each for the home side while Shohag added the other.

The women’s team, on the other hand, also played at the same venue as they outplayed south Asian neighbours Nepal 8-2 to set one foot in the knockout stage.

Zannat Zebin Hia created a world record by scoring five goals. No other woman has ever scored this many in the Roll Ball World Cup.
