Kenya edge Botswana in ICC U-19 Africa qualifiers.

Aman Gandhi continued his good run of form as he steered Kenya to yet another victory over Botswana in the ongoing Cricket World Cup Under-19 Africa qualifiers at the Nairobi Gymkhana on Sunday.

Botswana won the toss and chose to bat as the Kenyan fielders led by Yakish Pate, Gerald Mwendwa and Abhisshek Dambaran restricted the South African representatives to 140 all out in 44 overs.

Patel took four wickets in conceding 25 runs with compatriot Mwendwa taking two wickets for 19 runs.

The opening bowlers crushed Botswana’s top order, restricting them to minimal damage of only 76 runs.

Kenya’s opening partnership of Gandhi and Musyoka stepped on the crease chasing 140 runs. Gandhi, with his brilliant batting technique got 74 runs that included 12 boundaries from the 84 balls he faced. He was eventually trapped in Leg Before Wicket (LBW) by Phemelo Silass. Gandhi was named man of the match for the second time running.

His partner Musyoka continued the brilliance with 33 runs, including 6 boundaries from 50 balls. His run was short lived when he was caught by Silus Phemelo off Boemo Kgosiemang’s bowling.

The next three batsmen for Kenya, Rahul Seedhar, Aveet Desai and Thomas Ochieng ensured their combined 37 runs with 4 boundaries was enough to secure the needed 140 runs to win the tie. Kenya would eventually win convincingly with 7 wickets.

In other results, Uganda tamed Ghana’s opening order restricting them to a maximum 116 runs in 35 overs and ultimately won by 32 runs.

Kenya now has two wins in their opening campaign and will need to win at least  three of the remaining 4 matches to secure their qualifying slot to represent the country in the global showpiece in January next year, in New Zealand.
