Kenya to face Ireland in Main Cup semis at Vancouver Sevens

Kenya Rugby sevens team will face Ireland in the HSBC World Rugby Series main Cup semi-finals after narrowly beating USA 19 – 14 at the BC Place Stadium, Vancouver.

Winger Alvin Otieno scored a brace, Daniel Taabu adding the third try for Kenya while Kevon Williams and Mallacchi Eslade scored for USA.

USA coached by former Kenya sevens head coach Mike Friday scored their first try in the first minute after a mix up from Simuyu’s charges Kevon Williams scoring the try Naima Fuala’la converting to make it 07-00.

Winger Alvin Otieno got a pass from Mwamba’s Daniel Taabu after a successful scrum scoring at the centre post, Taabu converting it to make it 07-07 in the third minute.

Eslade scored USA’s second try Naima adding the twos to make it 14-07 at halftime.

Innocent ‘Namcos’Simiyu words in the second half changed the game Daniel Taabu and Alvin Otieno scoring two tries to make it 19-14 at full time.

Shujaa will face Ireland at 11:20 pm (EAT)

In pool matches Kenya defeated Spain 17- 05 before demolishing Mexico 45 – 07 losing their final pool match 33 – 14 against last year’s runners up South Africa.

Debutants Levy Amunga, Derick Keyoga, Timothy Mmasi and Alvin Marube scored their first tries for Shujaa in the circuit.

Shujaa finished 12th last season with 35 points.
