Kenya Under 20 set for Botswana showdown

The national Under 20 women’s football team is set to face their counterparts from Botswana for the first leg of the U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier on Friday.

The two sides will clash at the Lobatse Sports Complex in Botswana’s capital Goborone with the return leg scheduled for a fortnight later at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

They will both be bidding for a chance to qualify to the first round of the competition where the winner will face Ethiopia.

The team left the country on Wednesday after spending in camp in Machakos camp since July 9 where an initial squad of 33 players was trimmed to 20 for the assignment.

This will be the first competitive engagement that the team is engaging in since 2012 when they participated in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

A total of 20 national teams of the member associations of FIFA are participating in the biennial tournament were the next edition will be in France in August 2018.

The last edition was held in Papua New Guinea last year 2016 and was won by North Korea after beating France 3-1 in the finals.
