Kenyan duo seek greener pastures in Sweden

Vihiga Queens and Harambee Starlets U-20 team player Cynthia Shilwatso and former Vihiga Queens star Lily Awuor,  currently turning out for Tanzanian side Kigoma Sisters FC, are in Sweden for trials.

The duo that flew to Sweden on Thursday will undergo intense trials with top-tier side Hammarby FC.

Shilwatso helped Vihiga Queens win the Kenyan Women Premier League title for the first time in 2017 while Awuor was among the pioneer players who helped Vihiga gain promotion from Division One to Premier League in 2015.

Awuor was also the top scorer in Tanzania Women Premier League in 2017 and their heroics have caught the eyes of the scouts.

They travelled to Sweden on Thursday, February 8 and will be in the Scandinavian country for about 12-days.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, Vihiga Queens head coach Alex Alumira expressed his joy for the two.

“As a team, we felt encouraged that we are working. It’s actually a plus not just for Vihiga Queens but Kenyan women football as well,” he said.

On her part, Awuor, though coy said: “Sorry, right now I’m not in a position to talk to any media house, I have been told so by my agent.”

Last term, their suitors Hammarby finished seventh in the Swedish Women Premier League known as Allsvenskan.
