Kenyan official lands WADA role

The Anti-doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) Director of Education and Research Agnes Wanjiku Mandu has been selected to join the World Anti-Doping Agency Education Committee.

Mandu received her confirmation letter on Wednesday and her appointment will run until the end of next year when she will be eligible to apply to the global body for reappointment.

“Please note that Committee terms are three years, however this term is slightly less (by two months) due to the roll out of new governance reforms in 2019 which had an impact on the timing of Standing Committee appointments for 2020.

“The Education team will be in contact with you again in order to provide you with further information concerning your involvement in 2020,” the letter copied to Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed and signed by the WADA Director General Olivier Niggli said.

The terms of five Committee members, including the Chair, came to an end on December 31 last year with former Malian basketball player Kady Kanouté Tounkara appointed new chair in January.

Mandu, together with four other Committee members, will be under the stewardship of Tounkara in spearheading education strategies on clean sport, as one prevention strategy highlighted in the WADA Codes.

Their purpose will be provide expert advice, recommendations and guidance to WADA Management with respect to both short-term education strategies and activities, and longer-term approaches to WADA’s education programs.
