Kenyan volleyball queens Pipeline off the mark in Egypt

National champions Kenya Pipeline launched their quest for the 2018 CAVB African Women Club Championship title in ruthless fashion when they crushed El Sham 3-0 (25-23,25-22 ,25-21) in Tuesday’s Group C opener at Al Alhly Club hall in Cairo, Egypt.

It was a perfect start for the Japheth Munala-led side with their compatriots Kenya Prisons set to serve off their campaign on Wednesday against Customs of Nigeria at 8:00pm (EAT).

Champions Carthage of Tunisia began their title defence on a high, thrashing Chlef of Algeria 3-0 (25-12,15-25,14-25) to go top of Pool B.

Hosts Al Alhly, who hold the record for the most continental titles (8), showed why they are the team to watch out for when they pummeled Nkumba University of Uganda 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-16).
