Kenyans resume medal chase at Doha Worlds

Kenya’s medal prospect return to the road on day three of the world athletics championships in Doha, Qatar as multiple African race walking champion Grace Wanjiru, chase for her first world championship medal.

Wanjiru, 40, finished second in all African games in August in morocco and despite the stiff challenge expected from the World beaters she is optimistic of winning a medal.

“The training was perfect and I am ready for the game, I know the weather condition here is not favourable for the road, but I have a game plan which if it works a medal is coming home, said Wanjiru.

With six African titles under her belt and a 2015 Africa Games Gold the only medal which is missing is in the Worlds.

“Will definitely make sure am among the leaders then try my best towards the end, the kind of training that we have had I know I am ready,” she added.

Also in the field is Kenya’s 800m men’s semis final where all three Kenyans Ng’eno Kipngetich, Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich and Emmanuel Kipkurui Korir will be searching for a place in the final.

“My aim was to qualify for the Semi final yesterday same as today’s mission where am targeting a ticket to the final,” said Rotich the race favourite.

Favourite Nijel Amos of Botswana pulled out of the competition due to injury.
