Kenyans set for ‘unique’ Euro 2016 viewing experience

The 2016 UEFA European Championship (EURO 2016) official broadcaster, SuperSport and the tournament official beer partner, Carlsberg have joined forces to stage the most memorable viewing experience for Kenyan football fans.

The two brands, Carlsberg and SuperSport, plan to heatup the local football scene through a number of exciting activities leading to the UEFA EURO 2016, starting with a sponsored viewing of the opening match on Friday, 10th June at Nairobi’s Quins Bar along Ngong Road.

“Our aim is to literally bring home the world’s most anticipated and watched football tournament.

“We expect football fans to get the ultimate football thrill and experience the sport like never before through our HD broadcast via SuperSport as they enjoy their premium Carlsberg beer,” said Auka Gecheo, the General Manager of SuperSport East Africa.

“For the first time in the tournament’s history, UEFA EURO 2016 will feature 24 teams compared to only 16 in 2012. The teams will compete over a full month, from 10 June until 10 July 2016 with 51 matches – up from 31 matches in 2012 – staged in ten different cities across France,” he added.

“Being the proud official beer sponsor of UEFA EURO for eight consecutive tournaments, Carlsberg is now excited to partner with SuperSport here in Kenya to deliver the experience of a lifetime that will only come again after four years,” Kings Beverage Kenya General Manager, John Ngelu added.

At the same time, MultiChoice Kenya confirmed that its DStv customers on Compact and Compact Plus bouquets will for the first time have access to the tournament in HD glory no extra cost.

“We’re excited to deliver this best football action in the world to our Compact subscribers while ensuring that this development doesn’t negatively impact them financially,” said Walingo Chiruyi, the General Manager of MultiChoice Kenya.

This will be the third time that France hosts the tournament, after the inaugural tournament in 1960 and the 1984 finals. The French team has won the European Championship twice: in 1984 and 2000. Spain is the tournament’s defending champions which they won in 2012.

The first match of the tournament will be between France and Romania at Stade de France, Saint-Denis on Friday 10th June which will be screened in Nairobi at a joint event between DStv and Carlsberg.

“The coming together of DStv, SuperSport and Carlsberg means local football lovers will enjoy a total of 51 live matches that will be played throughout the Euro Cup season in their favourite entertainment joints where they will also stand to win numerous prizes,” explained Ngelu.

The 2016 UEFA European Championship (Euro 2016) will be the 15th edition of the UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Europe organized by UEFA.

The Euro 2016 matches will be available on SuperSport 11 (DStv channel  211) and SuperSport 12 (DStv channel 212) on the Compact and Compact Plus bouquet while DStv Premium subscribers will get their Euro 2016 football on those channels plus on SuperSport 3 (DStv channel 223) and SuperSport 4 (DStv channel 204).
