Kenya’s ‘Man Chui’ out to defend title in Tanzanian capital

Kenya’s Muay Thai champion and local hero, Robert ‘Man Chui’ Nabertson will be aiming to defend his title in the first round of the regional XtraKombat Grand Prix 2018 Series.

The event, a mixed martial art fighting tournament is set for the March 20 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Nabertson won the then-vacant welterweight category belt last year at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani after outclassing his Ugandan equivalent, Twaha ‘Black Lee’ Kiiza to win the regional title.

Also on cards will be Kenyan Steve Biko who will be fighting for the vacant junior middle-weight category against a Tanzania opponent.

The competition has also drawn 14 other fighters from Uganda, Kenya, first-timers South Sudan, and the host country.

“The second round will be held in Uganda a month later, where we expect more fighters to take part. Last year’s event at Kasarani was a success and this year it will be even bigger,” the event director  Tom Allan Nyaga said.

The grand finale will be held in Nairobi on  May 12 which will be a culmination of the Thai cultural week that will be observed in Kenya, courtesy of the Thai Embassy.

“Thai will bring two coaches and two referee trainers during the one-week event and they will also organize a workshop to train our fighters on various issues,” Nyaga added.

Four Lady Fighters will be in contention in the first round in Dar Esaalam.
