Kenyatta University earns promotion to top-tier women league

Kenyatta University women hockey team has all but bagged the 2018 Super League title with one match to go before the curtains come down on the season.

This after the students squeezed a slender 1-0 win past the University of Nairobi in a weekend clash at the City Park.

With 22 points atop the league table, KU can afford the luxury of losing their final match but still pop the champagne. Their season has been   impressive losing one game, drawing four while winning six in the 11 matches so far played to earn promotion to the top-tier league.

Following the weekend defeat, UoN dropped to position three with 16 points out of 11 games, while Wolverines occupy the second place on equal points after smashing Lakers 2-0.

Kenyatta University will now aim at an impressive show in the top division next term as UoN and Wolverine tussle for the second promotion slot in the final round of matches.

UoN will face Lakers in a do or die match in Kisumu; and should they win by a margin of three goals;  they will oust Wolverines in second position; hence  wait for the result of the Wolverines final fixture against Mombasa Sports Club (MSC), a match that is set to go down on November 24 in Mombasa.

The KHU changes will take effect in the new campaign will see two teams promoted to make the top-tier an eight team league from the initials seven.

Meanwhile MSC, placed bottom of the log, risk falling to the axe after a dull campaign having won just two matches, drawing one and losing six.
