Kerr calm despite fixture congestion, eyes on the prize

Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr has no worries over the tight match schedule in August, with the 16-time Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions chase for three titles still on course.

Gor have 10 matches within August, in the CAF Confederations Cup, KPL and FKF Shield.

‘K’Ogalo, who are fresh from hammering their CAF Cup group rivals Yanga of Tanzania 3-2 away in Dar es Salaam last Sunday, are having their last training session at Nairobi’s Jericho Camp Toyoyo grounds, before flying to Kisumu for a league match against Kariobangi Sharks Wednesday morning.

“It’s going to be tough for us but I’m not worried because all my players are available for selection except Ernest Wendo. We have the depth we need to handle this kind of pressure and every player is dedicated to contribute to the success we are chasing this season across the competitions. This has been a key secret to our fairly smooth run so far despite massive rotation we have been doing in different matches,’’ Kerr told Citizen Digital.

The 2018 Cecafa Kagame Championship semi finalists will face Nakumatt in Machakos come Saturday, with Kerr hoping further to extend his lead at the league summit.

Nizigiyamana comeback

“A good player should be dedicated to his work and ready for any assignment. I know if they want to maintain their unbeaten run, they can easily do it. Sometimes you have a good season and things are working your way, so you need to capitalise on everything good you have and probably leave something special for fans to remember…” he added.

The English tactician at the same time revealed the eagerly awaited comeback of dependable Burundian defender Karim Nzigyimana is finally over.

“Karim has fully recovered and will be available for selection on Saturday during against  Nakumatt in Machakos. The entire Gor family has been waiting to see him back in action, and I hope he will offer his best gradually as he regains his form,” told Kerr.

Gor have two CAF Confederation matches within August, against Rwanda’s Rayon Sport on 19th and USM Algers of Algeria away in Algiers on 29th.  They will also have a total of seven league matches in the month of August alone.
