Kerr oozes confidence as Gor takes their battle to Kericho

Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr is optimistic that his boys will beat Zoo Kericho when the two sides lock horns tomorrow (Thursday) in a Kenyan Premier League midweek fixture at the Kericho Green Stadium.

Ahead of the clash, Kerr has challenged his strikers to be ruthless in front of goal to guarantee the league champions the three points.

According to Kerr, the defending champions have had intense training since they overcame Leones Vegetarianos of Equatorial Guinea, whom they beat 2-0 in the Caf-Champions League preliminary match last weekend.

“We had a crucial training session on Tuesday and Wednesday and I can say we are well prepared for tomorrows match against Zoo Kericho,” Kerr said, adding that, “Zoo is a tough team. Despite us beating them last season we struggled a lot. I understand we are away but that shouldn’t be a weak point for us, we will focus and I am sure my boys will deliver.”

K’Ogalo travelled to Kericho early Wednesday morning, more than 24 hours to the match in a bid to acclimatize to the chilly conditions in the small town in the heart of former Rift Valley province ahead of the crucial match.

He went on: “My aim this season is to retain the league as well as in even the Caf- Champions title.”

Zoo began their league campaign on a sluggish note suffering a 4-2 defeat in the hands of Ulinzi Stars in round one of the league fixtures on February 3, and they are keen on rectifying their mistake ahead of the K’Ogalo duel.

Contrary to K’Ogalo, Zoo have the benefit of freshness having had a quiet weekend while their Thursday opponents were engaged in a Caf assignment.

In fact, their head coach, Sammy Okoth, is concerned with his sloppy defence which he wants to improve when they collide with the visitors.

“We have tried to rectify some mistakes which occurred in our match against Ulinzi. Our defence was very poor and that’s what we’ve been working on.

“We also need to improve in the goalkeeping where we conceded easy,” said Okoth.

Gor will be out to build on their impressive start to the campaign after thrashing Nakumatt 4-0 in their opening game at Kenyatta Stadium Machakos.
