Kigama, Muhudu upset favourites to win Vihiga Games

Kigama Boys High School pulled off a shock 2-0 win over favourites Vihiga High to be crowned the new Vihiga County champions in an entertaining final played at Maseno Polytechnic on Friday.

Vihiga, nonetheless, will join the champions on the path to the Regional Games set to be held in the neighbouring Bungoma County on June 14-17.

The match had pulled a large crowd and they did not wait too long before they had something to cheer about as Lawrence Luvanda scored twice inside the opening 20 minutes to ensure Kigama sealed the smash and grab victory.

“It felt great scoring the two goals in the final and I hope to continue with the good form in the Regional Games,” Luvanda told Citizen Digital.

Vihiga captain Hillary Mudora conceded defeat but stated they are content with the loss as they eye a better outing in the next phase of the tournament.

“We lost fairly, they played well but on our side we failed to utilize chances,” Mudora said.

Chavakali Boys finished third after defeating Kegoye 3-1 in playoffs that played at Ebusakami.

The girls’ category delivered another upset result as Muhudu downed Vokoli Girls 1-0 to emerge winners courtesy of a Dorine Akwisina goal.

Akwisina, who also skippers the side, said she was pleased to lead by example after helping deliver the title for her side.

Kaimosi Girls won the third place play-offs after edging Kwiliba 2-1 in the post-match penalties shootout.

In Volleyball, Chavakali boys were crowned champions after hammering rivals Vihiga Boys 3-0 as Nyang’ori Boys overpowered Mmbale Boys in the playoffs to finish third.

In Girls volleyball, Mudavadi Girls- Madzu emerged winners after edging Keveye Girls 3-0 while Ikobero claimed second runners up after their 3-0 win over Bunyore Girls in the playoffs.
