Kimeli, Cherono put UOE XC titles on the line

After the Ndalat Gaa Cross Country that was held last weekend in Nandi County, athletics action moves to the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County for Saturday’s University of Eldoret (UOE) Cross Country.

This year’s event will mark its 28th edition, making it one of the oldest races in the country and will be headlined by last year’s champions Nicholas Kimeli and Eva Cherono.

Kimeli will be joined by a contingent of seasoned athletes including last year’s runners up Noah Kipkemboi and Africa Cross Country senior men champion Alfred Barkach who finished third in last year’s race.

In the women category, it will be the same script as Cherono will be lining up alongside Daisy Kimeli who finished second as well as the second runners up Kenyan- born Yasemin Can from Turkey (formerly known as Vivian Chemutai).

In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, Local Organising Committee (LOC) secretary Kibet Rono said they are expecting more than 1500 athletes in the various categories.

“The plans are going on well, we are expecting at least 1500 athletes to grace the event which is one of the oldest in North Rift and the entire country,” said Kibet.

Apart from the 10km senior race, other events include 8km junior men, 6km junior women, 10km race for Universities (men and women), 2km senior citizens- 50 years and above (men) and 45 years and above (women).
