National and Western Region Secondary Schools handball boys defending champions Kimilili Boys got their title defence off to a roaring start winning their opening two matches as the regional games got underway in Vihiga County.

The Bungoma County based school which finished fifth in the East Africa championship last year showed their class hammering Kolanya Boys from Busia County 25-15 before crashing Kivaywa from Kakamega 37-11 in their second match.

Buoyed by the two huge wins at the group stage, Kimilili are already through to the semis and will not face Chavakali Boys who were disqualified for impersonation.

Head coach Wekesa Wangwa is however raring to go insisting his boys are more than ready for a semi-final battle.

“I am happy for the wins and I congratulate my boys for a job well done. My opponents should be ready for a tough battle tomorrow (Tuesday) which I believe we shall win,” Wangwa said.

On the other hand, girls defending champions Moi Girls Kamusinga qualified for the semis with a game to spare. They hit Mukumu Girls from Kakamega 18-15 before hammering Aboloi from Busia County 32-11 .Both matches were played at Ivona Primary School.

They’ll be aiming to keep their unbeaten record intact when they face Emusutsu in their final group match on Tuesday.

“We are taking one game at a time since we don’t know the preparedness of other teams but we are determined to take the trophy home,” team head coach Geoffrey Simiyu charged.

In rugby 15s defending champions Kakamega Boys and Nambale qualified for the semis after they both won their opening two matches.

Kakamega defeated Ebusiloli of Vihiga County 27-0 before hammering Chesamis 21-0 while Nambale from Busia County defeated Bungoma High in their first match 36-3 before picking an 11-0 win against Vihiga Boys .They face Koyonzo on Tuesday in their final pool game as Kakamega battle  Mundika.
