Kipyegon settles for silver, relinquishes World title
Faith Kipyegon surrendered her World 1,500m title as she settled for silver in a tough race held Saturday night at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
The Olympic champion clocked 3:54.22 as she came home second behind Ethiopian-born Dutch athlete Sifan Hassan who clinched gold in a Championship Record of 3:52.95.
Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay placed third in a Personal Best of 3:54.38 to seal the podium bagging a bronze medal.
Unlike in her previous races, Hassan pushed for an early lead and while Kipyegon kept a safe distance she could not overcome the Dutch athlete from clinching a double in the championships having ran to victory in 10,000m on Sunday.
Africa 1,500m champion Winny Chebet who was teaming up with Kipyegon finished a disappointing seventh in 3:58.20
