Kisii County champs Gesero Girls stroll into semis

The KCSSA under-19 Girls’ champions Gesero Secondary School have qualified to the semi-finals thrashing Nyabisase 5-0 in the quarters on Thursday.

Gesero head coach Albert Megubo was all praises for his girls for their heroics saying they had shown they have what it takes to defend their crown.

“We played will in the quarter finals and am sure we will go through the semis successfully. Our main challenge is injuries to our key players. However, they are undergoing treatment and we hope they will be in good shape tomorrow,” he said.

Gesero Boys will come up against Nyangweta in the fight for a place in the last four.

Meanwhile, debutants St Ann’s Nyangoge Girls coach Benjamin Nyakundi is optimistic they will one better and make the cut for the finals.

“It is true we performed dismally last year. However we have won all our matched so far which is an indication of our tremendous growth. I am confident we will win in the finals,” he said.

While his team has improved a lot since last year, he reckons an injection of new players in the midfield has transformed their exploits as can be seen from the team’s improved displays so far in the tournament.

With the prospect of facing defending champions Gesero in the finals, he has his work cut out already.

“This year we have good and skilled midfielders. There is a chance we meet Gesero in the finals but we will try our best to beat them.” He added.
