Kisorio tells drugs cheats to ‘come out’ and share their story

The 2011 Philadelphia Half Marathon champion Mathew Kisorio has urged athletes that have been implicated of doping to come out and share their story in order to help sensitize others against the vice.

Kisorio, unlike many athletes, decided to accept the allegations of doping against him in 2012 where he subsequently served a two-year ban that ended in July 2014.

Speaking at the Athletics Kenya(AK) Athletes’ Annual Conference on Thustday Kisorio said that he decided to open up on the issue in order to sensitize the rest as he urged those that have ever been found guilty to speak out.

“I would like to urge other athletes who have been found in this to come out and explain what happened, how it happened and that will help us a lot to get a direction in this issue. If we can get a good number then the better because even if I speak alone it will not be enough,” Kisorio said.

After his ban, Kisorio whose Half Marathon Personal Best of 58:46 is the third fastest ever, said he returned to training in order to kick start his career in what he says he want to achieve big things before eventually quitting the sport.

“When I was in the cold for two years my career stalled but after that I resumed training and I still hope to do great things may be for the next five years,” revealed Kisorio.

The Conference is the first of its kind organised by the athletics body and Kisorio has lauded the move by AK.

“The conference will go along way in enlightening athletes not only on doping but also on topics such as investmenst and career development. I will urge them to do more especially by taking this forums to the grassroots like Kapsabet, Iten and Nyahururu where majority of the athletes hail from,” Kisorio said.

The three-day seminar comes at a point in time when the country is in serious fight against doping where Kenya is currently in category-A of countries under the IAAF watchlist.
