Kisumu All Stars edge Vihiga in playoff clash

Kisumu All Stars seized first leg advantage with a 2-1 victory over Vihiga United in their promotion/relegation playoff clash at the Mumias Sports Complex on Saturday.

Willis Otiende opened the scoring for the visitors with a well taken penalty and substitute Dennis Wafula equalised for Vihiga before Shadrack Omondi scored the winner with nine minutes left on the clock.

All Stars were reduced to ten men late on after captain Bobby Kwaka was sent off for a second booking, leaving coach Andrew Aroka with tough choices to make for the second leg.

“Its unfortunate when you have a main player get a red card because this means we have to recheck our squad for the rematch. Vihiga united is a good team and we gave to be clever when they visit us,” Aroka said.

His counterpart Sammy Okoth said the early penalty they conceded threw them off balance.

“Its sad to be beaten home and allow them have an away win, the penalty made my joys to loose the tactics we have always instilled in them,” he said.

The two teams clash again on Tuesday next week with the winner set to face set to complete the list for next season’s top flight teams.
