Kisumu County to build modern stadium

Kisumu County will begin the construction of a modern stadium by next year, the CEC in charge of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sports Achie Ojany Alai has said.

Achie says the local government has already obtained an approval form and will work Football Kenya Federation (FKF) through the project as they seek to find a worthy home for the football mad region.

The County Sports chief declined to disclose the proposed location of the facility but confirmed it will be built on the outskirts of the lakeside city of Kisumu.

“We have put into consideration other sporting disciplines other than football so it will have separate basketball and volleyball pitches,” Achie told Citizen Digital.

The official added that the Moi Stadium will undergo a facelift as part of the county’s agreement with an unnamed donor.

‘’We shall also use sport as a way of bringing youth together and even as a form of employment, and I urge the youth of this country to take sport seriously as it will be for their own benefit,” Achie said.

She hoped the stadium, once complete, can woo Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants Gor Mahia FC into adopting it as their home ground.
