Kisumu win a foundation for KPA faceoff, says Terror coach Genga

University of Nairobi (UoN) Terror head coach Eugene Kalman Genga is convinced his side’s 77-45 demolition of Kisumu Lakeside in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Premier League on Sunday is a perfect rehearsal for next weekend’s high-octane clash against title-chasing Kenya Ports Authority at Makande gymnasium in Mombasa.

Genga whose side dominated in all quarters underlined their imposing rebounding as central to their weekend success and is optimistic his charges will recover in time to take on high-flying KPA as they eye for a slot in this year’s playoffs.

“We played very well against a tough opponent and I’m convinced that the final score does not reflect the reality about the game.

“I congratulate the boys for working on their defense because we boxed out very well today(Sunday) and also our big men showed up big time,” he observed after the final buzzer.

Elsewhere Kenyatta University Pirates head coach Caleb Osewe heaped praise on his team’s ruthless 63-32 rout of Kisumu Lakeside on the same venue terming it as a perfect start to his tenure with the side that has been blowing hot and cold this season.

Pirates were in their dominant best outscoring their opponents in all quarters in a display that got Osewe believing his side can achieve more this season if they work on their team chemistry.

“I’m elated by the way my boys played today as I believe it is a culmination of the hard work they put in training since I arrived here.

“I believe we can mount a serious challenge in the postseason if we can iron out our weaknesses because we have all the tools to do it,” he said.

For Kisumu Lakeside captain Basil Ogembo their implosion on Sunday is an indication of the ground they will have to cover to be at par with the rest of the teams in the KBF Premier League, having previously taken a two-month hiatus following the government’s decision to ban sports activities in Kisumu County which is among the 13 western counties that were put on lockdown.

“We were a bit disadvantaged since we had to play three games in a span of two days. We traveled on Friday and played on Saturday and again today we had  back-to-back matches which was very punishing on our side.”

Ogembo however rallied his troops to focus on next Sunday’s home clash against Umoja at Manyatta Arabs in Kisumu.
