Kitambi feted in his last day in KPL
Outgoing AFC Leopards coach Dennis Kitambi has been named the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) coach of the month of March, a significant farewell as he leaves the den.
Kitambi won all four of AFC’s matches in March hence unanimously voted the March finest by the Sports Journalists Association Kenya (SJAK) football committee.
Under the Tanzanian, Leopards beat Sony Sugar 2 – 0 away in Awendo before defeating Mathare United 4 – 3 at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
The 13-time KPL champions followed with another 3-2 win over Wazito FC and a 2 -1 against Kakamega Homeboyz, to seal a successful month that saw them rise to the summit contenders.
It is the first time since the initiation of the monthly awards that a coach and player from the same club have been awarded, as striker Ezekiel Odera took home the gong for the month.
Kitambi will leave the country on Tuesday for Bangladesh, to join his former boss Stewart Hall as his assistant at top tier side Saif Sporting Club.
Kitambi who took charge of the club in a temporary manner in February after the sacking of Robert Matano.
Argentine Rodolfo Zapata who is yet to get the first win at the den, is fully in charge of Ingwe and had two weeks to learn from his predecessor.
