Kiwi Feeney named KRU Technical Director

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has appointed Paul Feeney as the new Technical Director and head of the Kenya Sevens program.

During the unveiling at the RFUEA ground, Nairobi, the New Zealander said it was an honor to be appointed by the KRU.

“I’m grateful to the Kenya Rugby Union for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to work with not only Shujaa but also the Simbas and the Lionesses at large,” the former Fiji, and Western Province (South Africa) coach said.

According to the KRU Chairman Oduor Gangla, Feeney will start his job immediately with the main focus being the 2020 Olympics Qualifiers adding that they will work with the New Zealander up to the 2022 Rugby World Cup.

The Union has retained Paul Murunga as the Kenya sevens coach with Gangla adding that he will work with other teams especially Morans.

“We’re working on exposing the Morans team to more tournaments apart from the annual Safari Sevens; we have already planned for them to participate in this year’s Invitational Dubai7s,” said Oduor.

The rest of the Kenya Sevens management team remains intact with Kevin Wambua being the assistant coach, Mike Shamiah the strength and conditioning coach, Lamech Bogonko as the physiotherapist and Eric Ogweno.
