Kenya National women’s basketball league defending champions Kenya Ports Authority head coach Anthony Ojukwu has tipped his side to register positive results in this weekend’s double header at their home court, Makande Gymnasium, Mombasa.

The Dockers will play Strathmore Swords on Saturday before facing Storms on Sunday in the women’s league.

“We have trained well in the past one week since Monday, we haven’t broken camp since we came to Mombasa from Nairobi, we are in good spirits and everyone is waiting for the games.

“They won’t be easy matches as teams are fighting for playoff positions but we are prepared, we don’t fear any team even though we respect them so I expect a good game from my players,” Ojukwu said.

KPA are yet to taste defeat in the regular season having played 18 matches with 36 points at the top of the table.

Elsewhere Zetech Sparks head coach Maurice Obilo is banking on his girls to come back with a win when they visit Nakuru to play against home side The Swish on Saturday.

The students are off session meaning we have logistical challenges linking all our places to the match venue, Eldoret, and some of them may miss out.

“We are well prepared and we expect to do well even though the school is on holiday and that’s why we are not travelling today (Friday) as we should be.

That's why we just got one day to travel, play and come back. Even the school drivers are not around, we are even hiring and hence not able to travel to Eldoret,” Obilo said.

Zetech Sparks who were last season women’s premier league first runners up have currently played 16 matches, winning 15 and losing one only against champions KPA with 31 points, five points behind league leaders KPA.

Meanwhile, Giants Equity Hawks head coach Benson Oluoch has admitted that the rainy season has affected their preparations this week as they plan to face bottom side KU ORYX in another women’s league match.

The Bankers who have so far played 16 garnering 29 points winning 13 and losing three will be playing Sunday.

“The week has been tough, the weather is not permitting to do a lot but the girls are mentally prepared and we expect the best,” Oluoch said,
