Kobala, Gesero reach semis at Nyanza Games

The Nyanza Region Under-19 girls football champions Kobala needed an inspired second half to secure a 2-1 comeback victory over Gesero to finish top of Pool A.

They thus went through to the semi-finals along with Gesero who will face the free-scoring Hawinga in first last eight clash later Friday.

“The game was tough if you look at our opponents they came for the win because they played very physical. Also they beat us to many aerial balls which was a huge challenge to us.” Kobala team manager Victor Omwoyo said.

He added that the team is focused on overcoming the regional huddles and represent the region in the national games slated for Kisumu Day early next month.

“We are ready to face any team that comes our way. Being a regional champions we know that everyone is ready so we are. One positive thing is that our skipper who was suspended will be legible to play in the next stage. I believe she will boost us greatly,” he added.

Gesero head coach Albert Mekubo, he was pleased that the team will continue with its fairytale run this year as they aim to make the cut for the finals yet again.

“We drew with Magadi and then beat Abondo Kosiembo from Migori County  1-0 in our campaign and we are happy that we qualified for the finals even with the loss against Kobala.”
