KPA brace for Storms in basketball playoff semis

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) return to domestic action with playoff semi-finals showdown against Storms over the weekend at the Nyayo Gymnasium.

KPA, who finished seventh at the FIBA Africa Women’s Champions Cup in Mozambique, will hope to use lessons from the continental event to firm up their title defence bid.

Storms defeated KPA during the second leg of the regular season and will ride on the fact for inspiration although they will have to do it without a set of players who played key roles in that win.

Betty Kananu and Celine Okumu have since joined Equity Bank while Natalia Akinyi is away on maternal leave but head coach Abel Nson is adamant the final is not beyond them.

“It’s going to be tough. KPA is just from an international tournament but we are going to give our best with and aim to take home advantage,” Nson told Citizen Digital.

KPA finished second with 38 points in the regular season while Storms finished third with 37 points.

The two sides meet in Nairobi for Games One and Two before meeting the following weekend in Mombasa for the final three matches of the series.

Meanwhile, regular season leaders Equity Bank who finished ninth at the Africa Women Championship in Maputo face Strathmore in the other semi at the same venue.
