KPA coach expecting more after weekends double swoop

KPA Ladies coach Mike Opel says his team is undergoing gradual improvement after 71-27 win over Tangit Sparks in Kenya Basketball Federation match on Sunday, to clinch the weekend double with a sweep.

The Mombasa based side started their weekend’s quest with a 59-39 triumph over second-placed Strathmore, to hand the Madaraka based side their second defeat in line after Equity Hawks slated their unbeaten run on Sunday (9).

Buoyant KPA lined the entire quarters humiliating the Sparks 17-3 in the first quarter before thrashing them 21-3 and 19-9 in the second and third quarters singly.

The Sparks found their spar in the last quarter losing by a whisker after they were thumped 14-12 to surface the game in a sparkling mood.

Poised Opel, noted that they came to curve the weekend double and with the quality effort from his players they fared to achieve the goal.

“We traveled from Mombasa knowing that we have to pocket two wins, and yes we did it. People should now anticipate gradual improvement from my team after each and every game because we are headed to the top,” said Opel.

Opel, who is currently gelling up a new team, is confident that his team has been improving since the beginning of the league, now marking to slit the crown from Equity Hawks who are the reigning champs.

“It’s a new team and we are not only aiming at winning matches but we are also pointing at merging the team together so that we can have a better game and impress our fans because at the end of the day it’s an entertaining sport and people should have fun.”

Opel now purposes on learning from slips they make to shape the team to be more clinical with lessened slip-ups.

“Each game we play gives us a new experience; we make mistakes but we use those mistakes to better our game by not recapping them. By the end, we will have made a solid team which can promise and deliver bliss.”
