KPA coach urges govt to provide emergency funds for sports teams

Kenya Ports Authority head coach Sammy Kiki says the Government must be prepared to provide emergency funding to bail out sportspersons if the current suspension on all sports activities persists.

Kiki says the Government has done little to help players, coaches and stakeholders in the industry to counter the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic on their livelihoods.

“Many people in the sports fraternity depend on sports for their daily bread as many have families which depend on them. Therefore, if the ban will take long then the government should step in and help the guys in sports,” he said.

At the same time Kiki has urged the government to speed up the reopening of sports saying it should not take as long as they did last year when it announced the first lockdown measures.

Before suspension of the league, KPA had won all their first three matches against KCA University, EMYBA and Lakeside.
