KPA, Equity out to chalk up wins in today’s FIBA matches

Kenya Ports Authority women basketball team head coach Anthony Ojukwu says their aim is to bounce back to winning ways when they take on  I.N.S.S of DRC in a must win fixture this evening.

The dockers shot themselves on the foot after failing to win their second Group B match going down 71-95 to First Bank of Nigeria in a tight match at Pavilhao Moxaquene Gymnasium at the FIBA Zone Five Championship in Maputo, Mozambique.

KPA won their opening duel against Lakers of Zimbabwe and victory over the Nigerians  could have put them in a strong position to advance to the next stage.

Against First Bank , KPA claimed victories in two quarters but fell in the other two by huge margins thus surrendering the game.

The Kenya giants had a sluggish start to the match losing 35-4 before bouncing back to claim the second quarter 25-16. This was however followed by a 19-16 defeat in the subsequent quarter and a narrow 26-15 win right at the death.

“We lost the game on the first quarter. My players were tense but I’m happy on how we played,” KPA head coach Antony Okukwu told Citizen Digital from Maputo.

Meanwhile after losing their first game on Saturday, Equity Bank, the other Kenyan team in the championship, will be facing Forces Armees Police (FAP) of Cameroon on Monday in a Group A match.

In other matches, FAP of Cameroon lost their second successive match falling 71-49 to home team Ferroviaro Maputo in a Group A contest while Victoria Club of DRC lost 39-89 to InterClube of Angola.

In group B, I.N.S.S hammered MB2ALL of Madagascar 71-51.
