KPA wont ice the champagne just yet

Despite having one foot in the women basketball league finals, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) head coach Antony Ojukwu has warned his charges not to celebrate yet.

Ojukwu made the remarks in the wake of a storming victory; an 80-55 win in Game One and a 63-47 win in Game Two over Storms in the semi finals playoffs at the weekend.

The two sides lock horns again this weekend in Mombasa in Game Three, Four and Five in the five-game semi-final series though KPA need just one win out of the three left matches to qualify for the final.

Should they cruise to the final, KPA will have earned an automatic ticket to Zone Five Championship set for next year.

A conquest over Storms will most probably see them face off with Equity in the five-game final.

The bankers also had a good outing smashing Strathmore 65-39, 61-50 in Game One and Game Two respectively last weekend at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium.

Said Ojukwu:  “Nothing to celebrate yet since play-off is different ball game. I just hope my players will continue with the spirit and complete the job come Saturday by winning the third game,” Ojukwu added.

Team captain Brenda Angeshi who missed Game One but featured in Game Two was also quick to shower her teammates with praise.

“It’s a good show for the girls. I’m proud of them. We hope and pray for a win to qualify for the finals,” Angeshi said.

Should the dockers and the bankers meet in the final, it will be a repeat of last year when they collided in a epic finale in Mombasa with KPA prevailing.

The two antagonists, jostling for the title, know each other too well, having locked horns recently in the Africa Zone Five Championship held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where Equity emerged winners.
