KPL title a long shot, top-four finish good enough, says Nyangweso

Ulinzi Stars head coach Benjamin Nyangweso is targeting a top four finish in this season Kenyan Premier League.

Nyangweso was on Sunday re-appointed as the head coach of Ulinzi senior side taking over from Dustan Nyaudo who has been promoted to the role of Technical Director.

Nyangweso, who led the team to the 2010 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title as well as the 2011 KPL Top 8 Cup, was replaced by Nyaundo at start of the 2018 KPL season.

“We are many points behind the leaders and it will be unrealistic to say we can win the title. This season my target is to help the team get to the top four thereafter start thinking about the title.

I don’t intent to make many changes in the team, my intention is to bring the best out of this squad,” said Nyagweso.

Nyagweso said he will be aiming to address the team’s attacking woes that has seen the soldier score only 16 goals from 17 matches so far this season.

“Defensively, we are not badly off; we just need a little tightening. We have been scoring few goals, picking slim wins and mostly drawing. To be able to rise, we need to score lots of goals and that is the one area we will be putting a lot of focus,” added Nyangweso.

With the doors to the 2018-19 mid-season transfer window set to be close on April 8, the former Kenya international says his side will not be in a hurry to the market before deadline day.

“By Sunday I will know if I will be make two signings, and if that is to happen they will be strikers and not any other department,” Nyangweso told Citizen Digital.

The 2010 champions are currently 10th on the log with 22 points in the league standings having played 17 matches.
