KPL transfers: No new signing for Ulinzi ahead of new season, Mathare to beef up
- Ulinzi were fourth on the Kenyan Premier League table with 43 points, behind Tusker FC, Kakamega Homeboyz and the league leaders Gor Mahia.
Ulinzi Stars head coach Benjamin Nyagweso says his club will not make any signings ahead of the new season.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, the veteran tactician insisted he doesn’t want to interfere with the ‘good momentum’ the team had picked before the league was stopped because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ulinzi were fourth on the Kenyan Premier League table with 43 points, behind Tusker FC, Kakamega Homeboyz and the league leaders Gor Mahia.
‘I don’t see us making any signings ahead of the new season, and we have a very strong squad that had good momentum before the season took a break because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The team had gelled well, and the players were very united, and it will be unfair for us to disrupt that. Still, I can assure you that we will be going for the title next season and we are very determined to end Gor Mahia dominance,” said the 2009 league winning coach.
At the same time, Mathare United head coach Salim Ali has said his team will have to strengthen every department to cope up with the competition in the league. Mathare were eight on the log before the league was stopped.
“We have plans to strengthen every department in the team ahead of next season; it’s going to be a very competitive season from the way teams are signing players so we won’t be left behind as Mathare United.
There are players whose contracts have ended, and we are going to hold talks with the management about their future, but with the uncertainty on when the league will resume planning is difficult, but hopefully, all will be well very soon,” said Ali.
For Western Stima, club chairman Laban Jobita says they’ll stick with their culture of signing raw talent having seen Bernard Omalla flourish last season scoring nine goals in his debut season.
“We’re yet to sit down with the technical bench to see which areas need to be strengthened and when we do that, we won’t sign big names,” said the club chairman.
