KPLs finest for January Hassan declares AFCON dream

Freshly crowned Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Player of the Month for January Abdalla Hassan is now shifting focus to cement his place in national team, ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations tourney set for June in Egypt.

The Bandari FC  attacker who was feted on Tuesday morning at Mbaraki Stadium following his last month’s heroics where he scored three goals and two assists, is banking on his current form to get the first eleven berth in Sebastian Migne coached side.

The 22-year old emerging goal poacher was among the 25 players selected by Migne ahead of the AFCON preparations and Chan qualifiers.

“I’m happy for the award and now I want to focus so that I can be in the final Harambee Stars squad to fly out for Egypt. This win is for Bandari and I thank my teammates and coach for the teamwork which has propelled us to the top of the league,” Hassan told.

Hassan believes Bandari who lead the 18-team league log on 31 points, can dare to dream for their first ever KPL title this season.

“Basing on our performance so far and our second place finish last season I think we only have one thing reaming which is to win the title and I am quite sure we can do it,” he averred.

At the same time, the striker is focused on following in the footsteps of Anthony Wambani who won the gong last year and then went ahead to earn a professional contract with Vasalunds IF U19 of Sweden.

“I don’t want to play for any other local club when I leave Bandari but I am eyeing for a foreign stint,” he emphasized

Hassan beat Mathare United’s Cliff Nyakeya and Allan wanga of Kakamega Homeboyz who equally performed well in January, garnering 15 votes ahead of Nyakeya and Wanga.

He walked home with Ksh. 100,000, a personalized trophy and a 49 inch TV while his team was awarded Ksh. 100,000.
