KRU announces Safari Sevens dates

The 2019 Safari Sevens will be held on October 18-20 at the RFUEA Grounds Nairobi, organisers Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) announced on Thursday.

Defending champions Samurai Rugby are some of the invited teams together with Apache and Red Wailers both from the United Kingdom.

The Kenyan flag will be lifted by two teams Shujaa and Morans who will be using the tourney to prepare for Olympics qualifiers set for November in South Africa.

Other invited teams include: HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series sides France, South Africa, USA and Spain, with the inclusion of Portugal Namibia and Hong Kong.

Speaking during the launch the Kenya Rugby Union vice chairman Thomas Opiyo said, “We are working towards having a bigger and better tournament both on and off the pitch. Both the players and fans will have something to look forward to.”

Although they don’t have a sponsor yet Opiyo says their priority is to bring back Safari Sevens to where it was then and then they think of bidding for a World Sevens Series leg.

The poolings will be done on a later date.
