KRU fails to name sevens coach

The long awaited technical bench for Kenya Sevens will have to wait longer after the Kenyan Rugby Union postponed the naming of the new Sevens Coach and his technical team.

The made the announcement in the last minute despite an earlier indication that the sevens team would get a new boss on Thursday, October 13.

A communiqué from KRU stated: “The press function to unveil the Kenya Sevens management teams has been postponed to a later date which will be communicated by the Kenya Rugby Union in due course.”

On Wednesday, October 12, KRU had announced that the unveiling of the new coach would be done on Thursday at 11:00 am at their offices.

Reports indicated that the interviews conducted last week, where 15 candidates had expressed interest, would see the immediate former coach, Benjamin Ayimba, handed a top job, even though not his previous role.

As at Tuesday, October 11, KRU distanced itself from a shortlist that was making rounds that indicated four local coaches; Mitch Ochola, Charles Cardovilis, Innocent Simiyu and Paul Murunga, had made the final cut as well as Fijian Sailosi Naiteqe.

The list, however, excluded Ayimba.
