KRU issue new date for Sevens Circuit

The Kenya Rugby Union has changed dates for the National Sevens Circuit which was to be held at the Mamboleo Showground in Kisumu.

The event was initially scheduled to take place on October 7-8, but has now been moved pushed to October 21-22.

According to the Kenya Rugby Union Head of Communications, Michael Kwambo, the change of dates has been necessitated by the need to give players adequate rest, ahead of the Safari Sevens, which are expected to take place shortly after the elections.

“The election period offers a perfect opportunity for players to take a rest since they would have played four tournaments in a row, which is not healthy for our players,” Kwambo said.

The break will also serve as an opportunity for teams to recharge and familiarize with the new format rules as outlined in the National Sevens Circuit manual.

According to the new rules, teams will now be required to have a total of 13 players as opposed to 16 in the old format.

Meanwhile, the inaugural Sepetuka Sevens will be held this weekend at the Eldoret Sports Club.

Leaders and defending champions Homeboyz will host the tournament.
