Ksh1b Bukhungu Stadium collapses injuring one

At least one person was injured and rushed to hospital when part of the Ksh1b Bukhungu Stadium that is under renovation in Kakamega County caved in and collapsed on Saturday.

The incident will pile more pressure on area Governor Wycliffe Oparanya with the flag-ship project coming under criticism for the escalating runaway costs of the upgrade and delay in completion.

The injured male worker was rushed to the Kakamega County Hospital when the stadium collapsed on the Russia side that was under renovation while his colleagues who had reportedly left for their lunch break cheated death in the early afternoon incident.

Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale and Mahiakalo Ward Member of County Assembly who rushed to the scene blamed the stadium collapse on the shoddy work done by incompetent contractors hired by the County Government through what they alleged were corrupt means.

Kakamega Deputy Governer, Philip Kutima ordered the renovation works at the stadium to stop immediately until a thourough inspection is conducted to ascertain the cause of the incident.
